Gotuaco, Moreno dominate Batang Pinoy archery
Bianca Roxas-Chua Gotuaco and Luis Gabriel Moreno took turns in dominating the archery competitions of the 2011 Batang Pinoy national finals Sunday at the Metro Naga Sports Complex.
The 14-year-old Gotuaco and the 13-year-old Moreno claimed the double FITA 18m single and the Olympic round in the girls and boys division, respectively. The duo are competing for Manila in this nationwide tournament aimed at discovering new stars for the national team.
Gotuaco scored 547 points in the double FITA 18m single improving on her 553 output during the National Capital Region eliminations.
Gotuaco, who studies at International School-Manila and is coached by national archer Fermin Barnachea and mother Sheree, asserted her dominance claiming the Olympic round by beating Caitlin Miciane in the finals, 6-2.
Moreno, who already has five gold medals from last summer’s Philippine National Games in his pocket, ruled the FITA singles event with 554 points. The grandson of showbiz personality German Moreno then beat Karl Kristoan Mari of Visayas, 7-3, in the Olympic round final to also win the gold medal in the event.
In swimming, Quezon City topped the medley relay events as Alberto Batungbacal, Jan Jeric Santos, Christian Limsui and Bryan Lim took the gold in the boys 200m freestyle medley with a clocking of 2:00.74 and Riana Herranz, Sofia Beatrice Guanio, Martina Borce, and Joana Colleen annexing the girls 200m freestyle medley with a time of 2:15.79.
The Batang Pinoy national finals is organized by Philippine Sports Commission with major backers SMART, Maynilad and Summit Mineral Drinking Water with other sponsors Standard Insurance, MILO, Jollibee, Negros Navigation, RELIV Now for Kids, Growee Multivitamins and the British Council.
