Japeth Aguilar took one more step closer to becoming the first Filipino in the NBA D-League after being picked in the seventh round Saturday.
The athletic 6-foot-9 forward was picked 109th overall by the Santa Cruz Warriors, the D-League affiliate team of the Golden State Warriors.
Aguilar, who spent three seasons at with NCAA Division I school Western Kentucky where he saw little playing time, was a member of the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters last season. Prior to that, he spent two years as part of the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team.
The Warriors, who were formerly known as the Dakota Wizards, curiously count another former Talk ‘N Text, ex-import Mo Baker, on its roster.
