The race for the Division One crown tightened Thursday night, after Kaya prevailed over Pasargad, 2-1, to grab a slight edge on top of the United Football League standings at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

The win propelled Kaya to first place with 39 points with a match in hand over Global, which has 38. The Loyola Meralco Sparks sit in third place with 35 points.

Kaya scored the first goal of the match after veteran Aly Borromeo sank a penalty kick at the 20th minute after a foul on teammate Jonah Romero inside the box.

Defender Adrian Semblat also hit the back of the net off a nifty assist by Lexton Moy at the 31st minute to give Kaya a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Mohammad Ohadi scored in the 51st minute to provide the lone goal for Pasargad.

Kaya needs to win their last match against Stallion Giligan’s on June 26 and hope that both Global and Loyola stumble in their remaining games to clinch the Division One title.

In the first match, a fiery start sparked Stallion to a 3-0 victory over Philippine Army Fritz & Macziol.

Forward Joo Young Lee blasted a goal just seconds after the match started, before Byeong Jun Yoon slotted another at the seventh minute to give Stallion an early 2-0 lead.

Veteran Ruben Doctora also nailed a goal at the 22nd minute for Stallion, which sealed its fourth place finish with the victory.
