Kelly Williams will be out indefinitely for the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters due to a recurring illness.
The 2008 PBA Most Valuable Player is suffering from idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, the same illness that caused him to miss a significant chunk of the 2008-09 season when he was still part of the Sta. Lucia Realtors.
Talk ‘N Text team manager Aboy Castro relayed the news to InterAKTV.
ITP is an auto-immune disease characterized by abnormally low-level of blood platelets, which help prevent clotting.
Williams’ old coach Chot Reyes took to Twitter to praise the player’s fortitude.
For @kelwilliams21 2 have played at this high a level for this long while battling a crippling disease is testament to his courage & faith.

With Williams out, the Tropang Texters are expected to lean more heavily on starting power forward Ranidel De Ocampo as well as newly-acquired center Rabeh Al-Hussaini. Ali Peek will also make his return from a knee injury.
“This is a good opportunity for Rabeh to show what he can do,” said Castro. “Also, thankfully, Ali Peek is back already.”
