La Salle dedicated Saturday’s 73-52 victory over University of the East to late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, who died in a plane crash last week.
The Green Archers wore yellow markers on their jerseys featuring the initials JMR as tribute to Robredo, who earned degrees in Industrial Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in from the university. Last week, La Salle Greenhills hosted a vigil for Robredo after reports that his plane crashed off the coast of Masbate.
“Actually, the La Salle brothers planned this. They wanted to dedicate this game to Robredo.,” La Salle coach Gee Abanilla said.
Robredo was an acclaimed public servant, winning numerous honors for his work including the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 2000.
MalacaƱang has declared days of mourning for Robredo beginning last Tuesday, when his body was recovered from the crash, until his state funeral scheduled on August 28. His remains currently lie in wake at the Palace.
