Lady Falcons, Lady Pirates gain Fr. Martin Summer Cup semis
Jinky Balasta scored 19 points while Snow Penaranda delivered 18 for the Adamson Lady Falcons, who turned back reigning UAAP champions Far Eastern University, 62-58, last Sunday in the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the St. Placid gymnasium inside the San Beda College-Manila campus.
Their heads-up play earned the Lady Falcons one of two automatic semifinal slots, alongside the Lyceum Philippines University Lady Pirates. The Lady Falcons have now won four straight games.
The Lady Pirates, meanwhile, absorbed a 54-60 loss to the Ateneo Lady Eagles and finished the eliminations with a 3-2 win-loss slate but clinched the second semis berth due to a better tiebreak record over the De La Salle Lady Archers, who sport an identical 3-2 card.
The third-ranked Lady Archers earned a quarterfinal slot, and will battle the OLFU Lady Phoenix for a semis seat when they collide at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lady Tams, on the other hand, will try to stay in contention when they face the Lady Eagles at 3 p.m.
