Leaders Cebu, Dumaguete zero in on Baseball Philippines playoffs
Cebu takes on Alabang while co-leader Dumaguete collides wth Taguig as the race for the playoffs heats up in Baseball Philippines Series 9, which resumes Sunday with another explosive doubleheader at the Parade Grounds in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
The Dolphins and the Uni-bikers pace the field with 7-3 slates and will go all-out against the Tigers (4-6) and the Patriots (3-7) with the Manila Sharks, toting a 6-4 card, seeking to catch up against the Batangas Bulls (3-7) in three morning matches set at 9 a.m. The six teams return at 1 p.m. with Cebu facing Batangas and Dumaguete going up against three-time defending champion Manila Sharks.
Alabang and Taguig clash in the third match.
A sweep of their matches tomorrow will move Dumaguete and Cebu to at least a two-game lead over pursuer Manila in the race for twice-to-beat advantages in the semifinals of the league organized by Community Sports Inc.
Dumaguete swept its May 20 games to regain a share of the lead. The Uni-bikers beat the Sharks, 8-7, in 10 innings then nipped the Bulls, 4-3.
Cebu, meanwhile, split its doubleheader, rebounding from a 2-9 setback to Batangas with a 6-4 victory over Manila.
The Sharks are raring to bounce back from two straight losses in the league sponsored by Gatorade, Emperador Light, Clark Development Corp., Harbour Centre, Philippine Transmarine Corp., Summit Water and Eagle Sky Inc.
Other backers of the event are the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Amateur Baseball Association and the Philippine Umpires Association.
