Mangahas, Vidal sizzle as Erase Plantcenta plasters Jr. Powerade
Inside an oven-hot gym, Allan Mangahas and Jett Vidal sizzled from beyond the arc.
Mangahas and Vidal totalled eight triples in the game as Erase Plantcenta defeated Junior Powerade, 81-69, Tuesday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Trinity University of Asia Gym in Quezon City.
Erase Plantcenta improved to 2-3 joining Junior Powerade in the team standings. The guard combo of the Erasers converted their three-pointers stopping the Tigers’ comeback tries just as momentum was starting to build.
The win snapped the Erasers’ two-game losing skid.
“Gusto talaga naming makabawi kaya para makuha namin yung laro, dapat mapakita namin ‘yung best effort namin kaya natuwa naman ako na nag-respond yung mga players,” said Erase Plantcenta coach Yong Garcia.
Vidal had five-of-eight from the three-point line for 19 points while Mangahas shot three-of-five from threes as he scored a game-high 21 points.
The Tigers build a 12-0 run to trail by only five points, 57-52, but Mangahas scored a turn-around three-pointer at the buzzer to increase the Erasers lead to 11 points, 66-55, after the third period.
Erase Plantcenta opened the fourth with a 7-0 run with Vidal nailing a three as the lead ballooned to 18 points, 73-55.
June Dizon also had a surprising debut with Erase Plantcenta as the big man scored 20 points after his release from Big Chill. He had 14 in the first half as the Erasers led, 43-30, after two quarters.
