Air 21 enforcer Ogie Menor has been slapped with a one-game suspension and fined P10,000 for his flagrant foul penalty two on Meralco Bolts import Mario West last Wednesday.
The decision was handed by PBA commissioner Chito Salud on Thursday shortly after meeting the Express wingman.
“He was assessed with a flagrant foul penalty two after he issued a strong vicious blow to the head of Mario West without any chance of reaching the ball,” wrote Salud in a text message to InterAKTV. “Therefore, he was meted a one-game suspension and P10,000 fine.”
West, who rushed after Menor to the Air 21 locker room as soon as the game ended, is scheduled to appear before Salud on Friday.
The import caused a commotion in the locker room area, but West later claimed he was merely trying to patch things up with his actions.
“He thought I wanted to fight him, but no, my intention was to let him know that no harm was done,” West said in an AKTV Center interview.
Salud said he spent 45 minutes talking to Menor, who has gained notoriety for his physical play.
“For 15 months, he has been my visitor eight times already. We had a long talk. I reminded him about his over-aggressive physical plays and that coaches and his co-players were complaining about him,” said Salud.
“I reminded him that if he wants to stay in the league, he has to keep check the way he has been doing. Maybe, he’s not aware how strong he is. Nakakasakit na rin kasi siya ng kapwa players.”
