Members of the Energen Pilipinas national youth team, forced to spend the night at the SGS Gym in Araneta Avenue in Quezon City due to flooding that made the roads impassable, have reportedly been rescued and the players have returned to their homes.

According to Energen Pilipinas operations manager Ito Lopa, SBP executive director Sonny Barrios called up SBP president Manny V. Pangilinan to request a rescue of the stranded Under-18 players.

RESCUE 5, the emergency response unit of NEWS5, came to the aid of the stranded group of players, coaches and parents, dispatching rubber boats to take the Energen team to a safe drop-off point.

“It took them six trips bago maihatid lahat ng members sa drop-off point sa 7-11 Quezon Avenue para makauwi sila kanya-kanyang bahay,” said Lopa.

Energen Pilipinas is set to compete in the FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship in Ulan Bator, Mongolia in less than two weeks. The tilt, which serves as qualifier for the FIBA Under-19 World Championship next year, is slated from August 17 to 26.
