NCR stamps class on Palarong Pambansa gymnastics competition
DAGUPAN, Pangasinan – National Capital Region (NCR) stamped its class in the gymnastics competition of the 2012 Palarong Pambansa at the Alipino Fernandez Sr. gymnasium here.
Carlos Edriel Yulo bagged two golds medals in the artistic category in the elementary boys while Martoni Aban also had two for NCR in the secondary boys of the same event.
The 12-year old Yulo, a protégé of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP), won the gold in the individual category with 27.25 points and led NCR in the team competition.
“Happy but I’m not satisfied,” said Yulo, an incoming freshman high school student at the Araullo High School. “Gusto ko makaapat na gold.”
Bagging the silver medal in the individual category was John Paul Lawrence Cruz of Region XII who tallied 24.85 points while NCR’s John Ivan Cruz got the bronze with 24.5 points.
Yulo led NCR in the team event to gather 76.6 points for the gold. Ilocos Region came second with 70.35 while Calabarzon won the bronze with 69.95.
Aban topped the secondary boys of the artistic gymnastics with 26.9 points. He was followed by NCR teammates Jan Gwunn Timbang (26.4) and Christopher Villanueva (25.8).
The NCR team eventually took the gold in team competition with 79.1 points followed by Calabarzon (73.45) and Central Luzon (69.95).
Meanwhile, Western Visayas bagged two more golds behind the exploits of Sheinne Sanchez and Cesar Fernandez.
The 13-year old Sanchez took the gold in the elementary girls shot put with a distance of 9.95 meters. Fernandez bagged the gold in the elementary triple jump with 12.15 meters.
Calabarzon’s John Miguel Lanuza won the gold medal in secondary boys triple jump with 13.84 meters distance.
Final matches of some events took a break Monday to give way for the opening ceremonies with President Benigno Aquino III as the special guest.
