Basketball action never stops, especially in a country like the Philippines. The NBA recognized the Pinoys’ love for the sport and to celebrate it, put up a 3-on-3 tournament in the country dubbed the NBA 3X presented by Sprite.
Marking the second year of the 3-on-3 event, the tournament officially tipped off on Friday, August 17 at the SM Mall of Asia. The tournament aimed to showcase the talents of ballers who are more into street-style basketball.
Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez was in town to join the festivities along with the Charlotte Lady Cats Dancers and the Orlando Magic’s colorful mascot, Stuff the Dragon to entertain the fans at the event. Basketball clinics for the public were conducted by Lopez as part of the NBA Cares program.
The Nets’ big man also did the honors in crowning the Division Champs of NBA 3X, the Sprite Uncontainable Game, the Slam Dunk contest and Skills Challenge last Sunday. On the same day, the Charlotte Lady Cats were special judges for the NBA 3X dance competition sponsored by Monster Cable. Finalists in the Sprite Uncontainable game will get a chance to represent the country at the 2013 NBA All Star game in Houston, Texas.
Lopez was drafted 10th overall pick by the Nets in 2008. The 4-year veteran center was part of the 2009 All-Rookie First Team. He was also a standout in college at Stanford University, earning Pac-10 All-Defensive and First Team Honors.
