Ninth seed Lomocso sweeps Metropolitan Chess 1900-below tilt

Ninth seed Richel Lomocso downed top seed Jaime Criste in the fifth and final round to win the February edition of Metropolitan Chess Club 1900 below standard chess tournament held over the weekend at ETON Cyberpod Corinthian Bldg. 1 located in EDSA corner Ortigas Avenue.

Lomocso of Pasay City stamped a perfect score of five points after five rounds of play and capped the title in this Metropolitan Chess Club monthly event sanctioned by the NCFP. He went home richer by P3,000.

In solo second with 4.5 points was businessman Raul Villate of Antipolo City who drew his final match with Joseph Balmaceda. Tied in third and fourth places with 4.0 points apiece were Roland Hermida and Ferdinand Lopez. Top seed Criste landed in fifth place with 3.5 points.

Best category performers were: Mayen Bernales (9-under); Shinkwoon Estrabela (12-under); Gino Cabual (18-under) and Romelito Lucion (unrated section). Rounding off other winners were: Lucion (6th); Cabual (7th); Louie Salvador (8th); Balmaceda (9th) and Ferdinand Palermo (10th).
