After completing a couple of blockbuster deals Thursday, GlobalPort is not pursuing a trade for Petron star forward Jay Washington, according to coach Junel Baculi.
The Batang Pier sealed separate deals that would land them squad Japeth Aguilar and Sol Mercado along with role player Kelly Nabong and JP Belencion.
Prior to those transactions, several newspapers reported that Washington was also being eyed by the Batang Pier.
The versatile Filipino-American forward has been the subject of much trade talk with the Boosters’ underachieving performance in the Philippine Cup. Last November, he admitted in an interview with InterAKTV that he has been on the trading block, saying he uses it as motivation to play better.
San Miguel Corporation executive Noli Eala, for his part, criticized the inclusion of Washington’s name in the reports.
“It is very unfortunate that some papers headlined an alleged trade involving some of our players which we dont agree with,” posted Eala on his Twitter account.
