Undefeated lightweight rising boxing star Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (22-0-1, 12 KOs) lived up to his hype, as he utterly annihilated and outclassed Mexican journeyman Jorge “El Tigre” Pimentel (23-12-0, 17 KOs) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, winning by 3rd round stoppage.
Gesta chin-checked and dropped Pimentel once in each of the three rounds, prompting referee Raul Caiz Jr. to call a halt to the bout.
The San Diego transplant from Mandaue City, Cebu showcased his fast hands, power punching and poise, snapping Pimentel’s neck in the third round with a vicious upper cut, and punishing him repeatedly with his superb counter punching. Gesta’s speed and power was simply too much for his hapless opponent who took the fight on a week’s notice.
After the fight, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum expressed his approval of Gesta’s performance and spoke about a possible fight against bigger names like Miguel Vasquez and the winner of the main event between Brandon Rios and Urbano Antillon in the kid’s future.
