NU wins UAAP cheerdance crown for 3rd straight year; UST, UP finish as runners-up Marquez Marquez

The NU Cheer Squadron stamped its class as the new cheerdance powerhouse after reigning the 2015 UAAP Cheerdance Competition for the third straight time on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

NU wowed the judges with its Evolution theme, executing difficult stunts with ease en route to bagging the title. They scored a competition-high 668 points.

Now a three-time champion, NU was once a cellar dweller in the competition. But after hiring international trainers, the squad finally won its first cheerdance crown in 2013 before repeating in 2014.

NU first made the top three in 2012, serving as a precursor to its ascend to the top of the cheerdance ladder.

Eight-time champion UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe came up second with a score of 651.5 points. The eight-time champion performed an African-themed routine for its second straight podium finish after missing out in the top three for quite some time.

The UP Pep Squad finished third after completing a flawless performance with the theme of “Utak at Puso” for 610.5 points. The cheerdance powerhouse, winner of eight titles, placed second last year and last won the crown in 2012.
