Filipino Rachel Ann Cabral fell to crack Russian rival Inna Stepanova, 7-1, to bow out of the London 2012 women’s individual archery competition in the round-of-32.
Cabral went arrow-for-arrow against Stepanova in the first set before falling short, 23-22, to cede the first two points of the match. The Russian stepped up her game in the second set, 23-18, before Cabral drew in the third set to split the point.
But Stepanova was not to be denied, scoring a 27 in the fourth set to send Cabral home.
Another Filipino archer, Mark Javier, is set to begin his knockout campaign on Wednesday. He is facing a tall order against American archer Brady Ellison, the No. 1-ranked archer in the world.
