Top Filipino shooter Brian Rosario begins his Olympic campaign on Monday as the men’s skeet shooting competition gets underway.
Rosario, who was granted a wildcard sport to the competition by the International Shooting Sport Federation last May, joins a field of 36 shooters led by American Vincent Hancock, the defending Olympic gold medalist and world record title-holder.
In the qualifying round, each competitor shoots five sets of 25 shots each. The first three sets are scheduled on Monday, while the last two sets are slated on Tuesday.
Only the top six shooters will make it to the final round.
Rosario has shot a 120 out of a total of 125 six times since 2008, and he hopes to repeat or better that performance to get an opportunity to move into the finals.
“I did that in the World Cup in Belgrade, Serbia. I’ve also done it a couple of times here, locally,” he said of the 120 score. The Olympic record stands at 121, set by Hancock in Beijing in 2008.
“Kung maulit ko yun, yun na ang pag-asa natin.”
