Overtime podcast: NU’s Eric Altamirano on coaching Alvin, Jerry, Kiefer, and Ray-Ray

“When we parted ways, nung sa Yemen kami nung Under-18, we knew already that this will be our last time together… sabi nila, ‘Coach, kahit nasa college na kami, or nasa PBA na kami, ‘pag tinawag kami ng bansa, maglalaro kami for the country.’ Promise nila yun.”
– Eric Altamirano on one of his final moments as national youth team coach
National University coach Eric Altamirano joins InterAKTV’s Jaemark Tordecilla in the latest episode of the Overtime podcast. He talks about his efforts in grassroots and youth basketball development with his Coach E Basketball School and the National Basketball Training Center. He also discusses the special group of kids he coach during his stint as the national youth coach, a team which included stars Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, and Jeron Teng.
He also talks about his current job as coach of the Bulldogs and how it’s similar to his experience as a player back in the 1980s for the UP Fighting Maroons. He also discusses why he didn’t exactly want to accept his first PBA coaching job with the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, whom he led to a PBA title in his conference, and how his coaching career has come full circle, now that he’s coaching kids whose fathers were once part of his team.
