Amid reports that Floyd Mayweather will meet Saul Alvarez on May 5, Manny Pacquiao will make his choice as opponent for a June 9 date when he meets with Top Rank head Bob Arum at around noontime of Saturday.
Miguel Cotto, Tim Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Juan Manuel Marquez are being targeted, but Arum said he will try his best to keep the media guessing as to the identity of Pacquiao’s pick.
Arum had met with Pacquiao last Tuesday and already knows where the Filipino stands.
The last few days, Mayweather’s name surfaced again and Arum said he is willing to drop everything if he sees a genuine sign that a fight between the claimants to the mythical title pound-for-pound king would progress.
On national TV Thursday, Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee reportedly said that the famed Filipino puncher will square off with Cotto.
Pacquiao also hinted that a Cotto rematch is very much possible, saying he can slug it out with Cotto provided that they agree to fight at 147 lbs. The last time they fought in November 2009, the two men fought at a catch weight was 145.
Arum, 80, is scheduled to take a Philippine Airlines flight to the US on Saturday afternoon.
