Pau Gasol heads powerhouse Spain’s Olympic basketball lineup

MADRID – Los Angeles Lakers centre Pau Gasol will spearhead Spain’s bid to go one better than their silver-medal basketball showing in Beijing come next month’s Olympic Games in London.

Gasol is joined in the team by brother and fellow centre Marc of the Memphis Grizzlies, and three other NBA players: Toronto Raptors point guard Jose Manuel Calderon, shooting guard Rudy Fernandez of the Denver Nuggets, and Oklahoma City Thunder’s power forward Serge Ibaka.

Spain, the current European champions, have been drawn in Group B in London alongside China, Australia, Britain, Brazil and one further yet-to-be-determined qualifier.
