In Friday PBA action at the Cuneta Astrodome, Mike Cortez had a sensational debut for his new team, leading the Air 21 Express to an 86-85 victory over Barako Bull. The Cool Cat posted 24 points, six rebounds, six assists, and five steals and scored the last five points of the game, proving for at least one game that coach Franz Pumaren’s faith in him paid off.
Barako Bull received even more bad news after Enrico Villanueva came down with an injury that they suspect could be an ACL tear.
In the second game, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel finally snapped its five-game losing streak, defeating GlobalPort, 81-79, but not before weathering a 21-point fourth quarter explosion from Gary David.
