Petron Blaze Spikers brace for tough quarterfinal outing against Taiwanese team in Asian Women’s Club Volleyball
The Petron Blaze Spikers dropped their last two games in the preliminary round but will still be seeing action in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Vietnam.
The reigning Philippine SuperLiga champion lost in straight sets to Japanese side Hizamitzu Springs, 25-5, 25-16, 25-12, on Tuesday and Chinese club Zheijang, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20, and Wednesday.
But Petron still finished with a 1-3 card, with its lone win coming at the expense of Iran team Azad Univeristy. That was enough for the Filipinas to advance to the quarterfinals.
The team led by Philippine volleyball stars Rachel Anne Daquis, Dindin Manabat and Aby Marano will be coming in as heavy underdogs when they take on Taiwan Power on Friday in the knockout stages.
The Taiwanese team finished as the top seed in the other bracket, sweeping all of its matches to earn the No.1 spot.
