The Petron Blaze Spikers dropped their final three matches to finish eighth in the nine-team field of the 2015 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championships in Vietnam.
The reigning Philippine SuperLiga champion lost to Taiwan Power in straight sets, 25-20, 25-16, 25-9, in the quarterfinals last Friday to bow out of contention.
The Filipinas then yielded to Zhetysu Almaty of Kazakhstan, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20, on Saturday and Lien Viet Post Bank of Vietnam, 26-24, 27-25, 24-26, 25-20, on Sunday in the classification phase to settle for eighth place.
Only Iran’s Azad University, which Petron defeated in the preliminary round, finished behind the Filipinas.
The eighth place finish was duplicate of what PLDT Home TVolution achieved in last year’s edition of the tournament.
Petron was led by Philippine volleyball stars Rachel Anne Daquis, Dindin Manabat, Aby Marano and was reinforced by Brazilian imports Erica Adachi and Rupia Inck.
