Petron reacquires Dondon Hontiveros in draft day blockbuster
Dondon Hontiveros is headed back to the franchise where he spent most of his PBA career.
The Cebuano hotshot will report to the Petron Blaze Boosters after his short vacation after being included in a blockbuster transaction between the recently-crowned PBA Governors’ Cup champions and Barako Bull.
Hontiveros was happy about the development.
“It feels good that after they traded me, they trade for me,” he said.
In the deal, Petron will receive the rights to Hontiveros and slotman Carlo Sharma, as well as the No. 3 pick, which the team used to draft SMART-Gilas wingman Chris Lutz.
In turn, Barako Bull received veteran center Mick Pennisi, sharpshooter Sunday Salvacion, and the rights to the No. 8 pick, which it used on PBA D-League Most Valuable Player Allein Maliksi.
The team also received a 2014 first round draft pick from the Boosters and a future second round pick.
While the scope of the deal was shocking, the news of Hontiveros rejoining Petron came as no surprise.
Earlier, InterAKTV reported that Hontiveros was pondering his future with the Barako squad as he found himself “confused” with the changes that have been happening with the team.
