Make way for a new dynamic duo in Philippine pool.
The tandem of Dennis Orcullo and Lee Van Corteza ruled the World Cup of Pool Monday in London by beating Neils Feijen and Nick van den Berg of Holland, 10-8.
The Orcullo-Corteza partnership became the second Philippine team to win the prestigious double’s event after the legendary pair of Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante, who won the tournament twice, in 2006 and 2009.
Orcullo, a former World 8-Ball champion and WPA Player of the Year in 2011, credited the big support of Filipino crowd as one of the biggest reasons for their win.
“The Filipino supporters who supported us althroughout was the biggest reason why we won,” Orcullo told the Matchroom website.
The Filipino duo had led 6-3, but saw their advantage wiped out by a determined Dutch pair.
But a crucial missby Feijen, a former world No. 1 player, gave the Filipinos a chance to put away the game.
Corteza pocketed a difficult long shot on the No. 8 to clean the table, before Orcullo took care of the 18th rack for the victory.
