The third edition of Pacific X-treme Combat in the Philippines happens this Saturday, November 26, with PXC 28. As the action begins at 7 p.m. in Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, AKTV on IBC 13 airs the main cards via satellite starting at 9pm.
Headlining the fight card is rising Filipino MMA star Tristan “Titay” Arenal, who will go up against undefeated Jon Tuck. Ultimate Fighting Championship star Brandon “The Truth” Vera graces the event as a special guest of honor.
Pacific X-treme Combat, a mixed martial arts organization based in Guam, made its debut in the Philippines with PXC 24 last June and PXC 26 last August. Its television partnership with AKTV has instantly made it the country’s top MMA show. The fights were aired live and watched by millions of Filipino viewers as well as an international audience.
PXC 28, dubbed the mixed martial arts event of the year, promises to showcase the best and fast-rising MMA fighters in the Asia-Pacific region.
Filipino Tristan Arenal is riding a four-fight winning streak, the latest happening here in Manila in PXC 26 where he knocked out Korean Gyo Pyung Hwang in the first round.
Arenal, who traces his roots to Bicol and Nueva Ecija, lives in Milpitas, California and fights under the Unlimited MMA fight camp. He carries with him a 4-win, 1-loss card, with 2 wins coming by way of KO and 2 by submission.
Meanwhile, Jon Tuck is undefeated with a 5-0 record and is best known in the country for his eight-second knockout of Eduard Folayang, a Southeast Asian Games gold medalist and one of the top MMA fighters of the Philippines.
Tuck has been out of the ring for the past two years. He has been concentrating on mastering the art of jiu-jitsu. The 27-year old fighter is the first-ever champion in the Abu Dhabi World Professional BJJ Tournament since 2009.
“For the past two years I wasn’t able to land any MMA fights so I’ve been keeping active by competing in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and No Gi tournaments all over the world,” Tuck said in an interview. “So I don’t feel like rust will be a factor in my upcoming fight.”
Adding flavour to the event is the presence of UFC fighter Brandon “The Truth” Vera, who returns to the country for the second time this year to show his support for the sport and to thank Pinoys for the adulation that he has received.
“PXC being in the Philippines is giving an outlet for fighters in Asia,” said Brandon, who is accompanied by his father, Ernest, in his visit this time.
PXC 28 is presented by AKTV and San Mig Strong Ice. Tickets are available at Ticketworld starting for as low as Php 350 with one free beer.
