The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are in the midst of a tough fight for their first finals seat in finals history, and they just got some bad news.
In a crucial game against the B-MEG Llamados on Wednesday that would decide the first finalist in the Governors’ Cup, Rain or Shine might go into battle missing either or both of its top stars Paul Lee or Jeff Chan.
Chan injured his ankle after landing on a Talk ‘N Text player late in Rain or Shine’s loss against the Tropang Texters last Wednesday. The play drew the ire of Elasto Painters coach Yeng Guiao, who asked for a flagrant foul because of the landing spot rule. No foul was called on the play.
Lee, meanwhile, re-aggravated his shoulder injury, which he incurred in the elimination round against Barako Bull, causing him to miss several games. He struggled visibly with the injury late in the game against Talk ‘N Text after tweaking his shoulder.
“Iika-ika si Jeff sa ensayo, while si Paul ipinahinga talaga namin because of the shoulder injury,” Rain or Shine assistant coach Caloy Garcia told InterAKTV.
Lee is the team’s top leading local scorer at 14.8 points per game and top assist man at 3.3 per game, while Chan contributes 13.5 points a contest.
If either or both of the two players are out, B-MEG becomes the odds-on favorite for Wednesday’s game. The loser of the match will not be ousted from finals contention, but will face the winner of the day’s Barangay Ginebra-Talk ‘N Text match in a do-or-die encounter for the second finals seat.
