Ravena to be cited in College Basketball Awards
Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena will receive a special citation called the SMART MVP award during the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps’ Collegiate Basketball Awards this Saturday at the Gateway Suites in Quezon City.
The media group covering the collegiate beat together with SMART will hand over the plum to Ravena for his stellar play and attitude on and off-the-court.
Ravena, who is also part of the Collegiate Mythical Five, received the UAAP Rookie of the Year last year and helped Ateneo claim its fourth consecutive crown.
Aside from that, he was part of the gold medal winning Sinag Pilipinas team in the Southeast Asian Games in Jakarta adding to his stints with the national U-16 and U-18 teams.
Recently, Ravena organized a charity basketball event called FASTBREAK where several collegiate stars and showbiz personalities joined for the benefit of victims of typhoon Sendong in Northern Mindanao.
University of Perpetual Help System DALTA president Anthony Tamayo, meanwhile, will also be awarded in the event for his service as a young leader in promoting collegiate sports as host of the NCAA.
Other winners include Ateneo’s Greg Slaughter and Ravena, San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva, National University’s Bobby Ray Parks and San Beda’s Garvo Lanete for the Mythical Team); and Ateneo tactician Norman Black (UAAP Coach of the Year) and San Beda coach Frankie Lim (NCAA Coach of the Year).
Ateneo’s Nico Salva (Pivotal Player), Emman Monfort (Maynilad Super Senior), Kirk Long (Defensive Stopper), San Beda’s Dave Marcelo (Pivotal Player) and Letran’s Kevin Alas (Energy Player) will also be receiving awards as well as the San Sebastian Stags (Distinction for Excellence) and its players Ronald Pascual (Impact Player) and Ian Sangalang (Mr. Efficiency), Far Eastern University’s RR Garcia (Court General) and teammate Aldrech Ramos (Mr. Efficiency).
