San Beda Red Cubs gore Lyceum Junior Pirates by 157 points
Last year, the San Beda Red Cubs defeated the Lyceum Junior Pirates by 135 points.
This season, the Red Cubs decided to top themselves, bulldozing the hapless Lyceum squad by 157 points, 171-14, Monday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
San Beda opened the game with a 67-0 run that went well into the second quarter. The Red Cubs limited the Junior Pirates to just a single field goal in the first half, which ended 92-2.
Amazingly, San Beda is still figuring out its game after welcoming 12 new faces into the team.
“We’re still in the process of developing the character and the winning attitude of the kids,” said Red Cubs coach Britt Reroma. “We take every game seriously. We prepare for every team that we’ll go up against.”
He said he was just as surprised by the team’s winning margin.
“Hindi kami nagrerelax sa preparations. Dinadahan dahan namin matanggal ang bad habits ng players. We treat LPU with respect. Nagulat din ako sa laki ng naging lamang namin.”
Last season, San Beda also defeated Lyceum, 163-28, on July 11, 2011.
Former Energen Pilipinas national youth player member Ranbill Tongco top-scored for the Red Cubs with 27 points while seven other Red Cubs also scored in double figures.
Forward Aldwin Ligot was the lone bright spot for Lyceum, scoring 12 of the Junior Pirates’ 14 points.
