San Beda claimed solo leadership at the start of the second round after crushing Lyceum, 77-47 in NCAA Season 88 action Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Baser Amer finished with nine points and a whopping 16 assists to lead the Red Lions assault, to the delight of coach Ronnie Magsanoc. “It was a good bounce back for Baser in today’s game,” said Magsanoc.

San Beda, which is coming off a 65-43 win against Letran two days again, limited its opponent to less than 50 points for the second straight game. The Pirates, meanwhile, dropped their fifth straight game for a 2-8 win-loss slate.

After San Beda pulled away in the third quarter, Lyceum’s back-to-back baskets put the Pirates down by just 10 points, 51-41. But San Beda veterans Rome Dela Rosa, Jake Pascual and Amer engineered a 12-0 blast for a 63-54 lead, closing any hope of a comeback for Lyceum.

“Every team sa bottom half will work to get a spot sa final four. Madadali ka if you let your guard down,” added Magsanoc.

Lyceum’s Chris Cayabyab was the lone scorer in double figures for the Pirates with ten points.
