‘Sendong’ victims in Palarong Pambansa grateful for help
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Athletes from Region 10, specifically from Iligan and Cagayan de Oro Cities, expressed the gratitude of tropical storm ‘Sendong’ victims by parading a streamer prior to the grand opening of the 2012 Palarong Pambansa here on Monday.
The streamer’s message read, “Maraming salamat po sa tulong noong Bagyong Sendong,” that was shown to President Benigno S. Aquino III and other dignitaries including Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr.
It was a show of gratitude by the people of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro Cities that were devastated by the wrath of ‘Sendong’ in December last year.
The message may have been addressed to President Aquino who then mobilized all agencies of the government to aid the affected people of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro Cities.
The gratitude may have been also intended to the province of Pangasinan, the first local government unit (LGU) in the country that responded to the disaster by sending P1 million financial assistance each to both cities.
