The SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national program has gotten confirmation from 11 of 16 players named to the pool.
Kelly Williams, Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, Larry Fonacier, Ryan Reyes and Ranidel de Ocampo of Talk ‘N Text, LA Tenorio and Sonny Thoss of Alaska, Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine, Gary David of Powerade, and Enrico Villanueva of Barangay Ginebra signed the letter of intent to join the pool of the national team.
SMART-Gilas coach Chot Reyes confirmed the participation of the players in a text message sent to InterAKTV.
In a previous interview, Reyes said he expects all 16 players to commit to the national team’s cause as it is the ultimate dream even of players playing in the PBA.
“I still believe that it’s every players’ dream to play for the national team,” he said.
Yet to make their commitment were James Yap and Marc Pingris of B-MEG, Alex Cabagnot and Arwind Santos of Petron and Marcio Lassiter of Powerade.
Yap and Pingris are still competing in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals, where their team is trailing 1-0 to Meralco.
Cabagnot, Santos, and Lassiter, meanwhile, are on the sidelines after failing to make it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
