“Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona and Froilan “The Sniper” Saludar face separate opponents in “Pinoy Knockout,” the first local boxing match of 2012 on AKTV on IBC 13. The fight will be aired via satellite from Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on March 17 at 9 p.m.

Sonsona and Saludar are considered two of the best young Filipino boxers in the country today. Sonsona will go up against Carlos “El Flaco” Fulgencio of the Dominican Republic while Saludar will be tested when he faces his first Mexican opponent, Alejandro “Terrible” Morales.

Sonsona, who was only 19 when he won the WBO super flyweight crown in September 2009, now holds a record of 15 wins, 1 loss and a draw, with 12 knockouts to boot. In October 2011, he made a successful boxing comeback when he beat Mexico’s Carlos Jacobo.

In the upcoming “Pinoy Knockout” match, the 21-year old southpaw hopes to give a showing against Fulgencio, who sports an impressive 19 wins (12 KOs), 5 loss and 1 draw record.

On the other hand, Saludar comes from his rousing Round 10 TKO of Gabriel Pumar in Cavite last August. Saludar captured the WBO Asia Pacific flyweight crown to further add to his impressive belts of WBO Asia-Pacific flyweight championship and WBO World Youth Championship.

Undefeated with 13 wins and 1 draw, Saludar will defend his flyweight belts against Morales, who will be fighting outside Mexico for the first time. Morales suffered his lone defeat last year against fellow Mexican Julio Ceja in March last year but regained his winning form against Israel Rojas also of Mexico in October.
