Streaking EAC takes on San Beda; San Sebastian, Letran clash

AKTV/Paul Ryan Tan
The EAC Generals, who have won four of their last five games including a morale-boosting 73-71 win against Perpetual last week, will be facing a huge challenge when they face the defending champion San Beda Red Lions in the first game of an exciting doubleheader in Season 88 action of the NCAA at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
San Beda is still situated at the solo top spot with an 11-2 record while EAC is at 6th with a 5-8 mark. The two teams clash at 4 p.m.
The Red Lions are coming off a one-week break since they crushed the JRU Heavy Bombers, 67-45.
EAC coach Gerry Esplana successfully motivated the Generals at the intermission of their last game, resulting in a huge upset win over Perpetual. Coming into today’s game, complacency doesn’t have any space in their game plan as Noube Happi will have to face San Beda’s Ola Adeogun.
Jan Jamon, Franz Chiong and John Tayongtong will have to be prepared as the Red Lions will have them marked the whole forty minutes.
The maturity and teamwork of the Red Lions have been evident in their current string of victories, including their most recent against JRU.
San Sebastian and Letran will go head-to-head in the main game at 6 p.m.
Letran slipped into the fourth spot last Thursday after JRU dropped their game against Lyceum. The Knights and Heavy Bombers both have 8-6 records but Letran currently holds a higher quotient.
The Stags will be battling a tough Letran squad led by the prolific Kevin Alas, who erupted for a career-high 35 points in their previous game. But the Knights will have to contend with San Sebastian’s own star Calvin Abueva, nicknamed ‘The Beast’, who finished with 21 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in their previous game.
A win for the Stags will further cement the second spot to their favor while a Letran win puts them in solo fourth place ahead of JRU.
