Talk ‘N Text secured one of the two outright semifinals berth by beating Rain or Shine, 102-90, at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Saturday.
The win enabled the Tropang Texters to notch their sixth win in eight games while also ushering the Elasto Painters to the exit door. Rain or Shine finished its campaign with a 3-6 win-loss mark and became the first team to be officially eliminated.
Five players finished in double figures for the Tropang Texters, led by import Donnell Harvey’s 32 points and 16 rebounds.
Jimmy Alapag contributed 17 points, Kelly Williams chipped in 15 and Larry Fonacier added 13, including two three-pointers in the second period that led to the Tropang Texters’ breakaway after a tight contest in the first 16 minutes of play.
Fonacier’s dagger shots triggered an 8-0 run by the Tropang Texters, who led 40-32 with 5:34 left in the second period.
The Elasto Painters never got closer from there and the Tropang Texters continued their assault, building leads by as much as 15 points, 72-57, in the closing minutes of the third quarter.
