Teng lifts La Salle to OT win over Ateneo in FilOil-Flying V preseason tilt
Rookie Jeron Teng exploded for 17 points, including the game-tying triple near the end of regulation, to help La Salle escape rivals Ateneo in overtime, 62-59, in the FilOil-Flying V Preseason Cup Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Green Archers led most of the match, ending the third quarter with the lead, 38-31. But Ateneo sparked a 22-12 run in the final quarter to lead by three, 53-50, in the dying seconds of the game.
After a La Salle timeout, Teng buried a triple over Ateneo guard Kiefer Ravena to tie the game with 5.6 ticks left.
Ravena had the chance to give Ateneo the win, but missed a potential game-winner on the next possession to send the game to overtime.
La Salle then surged in the extra period, leading by as much as five, 59-54. Ateneo did not give up, as Ryan Buenafe sank a triple and Justin Chua made free throws to put the game within reach, 60-59.
Ateneo had the chance to force another overtime after split free throws by Teng and Jed Manguera, but Ravena once again failed to knock down the triple.
LA Revilla scored 16 points, while Norbert Torres chipped in 13 points and 19 rebounds to help La Salle seal the victory.
Meanwhile, Buenafe led Ateneo with 21 points, while Ravena contributed 14 points.
Ateneo played without seven-foot-tall star center Greg Slaughter, who was out because of an ankle injury.
