FEU star Terrence Romeo set a new season-high after torching Adamson for 32 points as the Tamaraws clinched a spot in the final four after a 92-80 win over the Falcons in the second round of UAAP Season 76 Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Mac Belo scored 18 points while RR Garcia had 14 points and six assists as FEU improved to 9-4 for the season and moved into solo second place behind just NU, which is at 9-3.
The game was tight until the opening minutes of the third period, when Adamson’s Jericho Cruz found center Ingrid Sewa for an easy basket to bring the Falcons to within two points, 44-42.
But Belo scored seven unanswered points for the Tamaraws to spark a 19-3 run, capped by three consecutive baskets by Romeo, to set the lead at 18 points.
But Adamson responded with a 10-2 run to bring the lead down to just 10 before Garcia hit two free throws to close the quarter.
FEU started the fourth period strong, though, as they took the lead back up to 19 points, 80-61, behind key baskets from veteran Carl Bryan Cruz and hits from scorers Belo, Garcia and Romeo.
The Falcons refused to roll over, but Romeo all but sealed the game with a steal and an easy layup in transition that made it 90-73 with just 1:26 remaining to set his new season-best scoring output.
Adamson dropped to 4-9 and remained in 7th place.
