San Miguel Corporation consultant Rajko Toroman has rejected a coaching position offer from Lebanese club team Al-Riyadi.
The former SMART-Gilas Pilipinas coach disclosed this to InterAKTV Tuesday night.
“That was 10 days ago. The offer given to me was two years, but I refused because I have a commitment with San Miguel Corporation,” said Toroman in a telephone interview.
Al-Riyadi is one of the winningest teams in Lebanon, and was the former team of star player Fadi El-Khatib.
Instead, Toroman decided to remain with SMC, where he has assigned to help the Petron Blaze Boosters on the bench during games assisting coach Ato Agustin. Playing a complementary role is new to Toroman, who is taking his new task as a big challenge.
“It’s a learning experience for me. This thing is something new for me because I’ve never did assisting job. I’ve always been a head coach,” said Toroman. “But I’m happy with the opportunity.”
The coach said the experience has been positive so far.
“I have no problems working with them,” said Toroman. “I’m a team player.
“In fact, I’m always there during the team meetings as well as meetings of the coaching staff.”
