UFL 2012 Preview: 12 burning questions

Who are the players most likely to become breakout stars?

Jamlang: While clubs like Global and Loyola are snapping up “finished article” players that can bring immediate success, Kaya has done well in bringing in promising youth. Although this might not translate into instant success, the team has built a foundation that will make it very solid in years to come. With the addition of youngster Joshua Beloya and the reacquisition of Alu Kigbu, Kaya once again proved crafty in the add/drop window. Look for Beloya to build on his impressive SEA games performance, and Kigbu to make a habit of terrorizing opposition full backs.

Fenix: Nate Burkey had his coming out party in the UFL Cup by leading all Kaya FC players in scoring, and we will look to see him continue his scoring exploits with Joshua Beloya by his side.

Beset by niggling injuries, local football fans have yet to see Angel Guirado at his best for Global and we hope the Filipino-Spanish striker could replicate his strong performance for the Azkals with a similar excellent showing with his club.

Ruben Doctora of Stallion, one of the country’s best strikers outside of the Azkals, should be due for a breakout season. Utilizing his speed to the hilt, Doctora caused a lot of problems for the Loyola defense in the UFL Cup. With a bigger football stage beckoning, his performances up front for the Stallions will be crucial in their foray into the first division.
