UFL Division Two: Cebu Queen City drubs Laos; Dolphins end slump

Third-ranked Cebu Queen City FC flirted with disaster before cruising to a 6-1 win over Laos FC, while Dolphins United FC stunned Agila FC, 1-0, in United Football League action Sunday at the University of Makati.

The Visayan booters found themselves in an early 1-0 hole after Laos’ Rolly Lear scored a goal in the 21st minute. But Dan Villarico did not prolong Cebu Queen City United’s woes as his free kick outside the penalty box hit the back of the net in the 24th minute to tie the match.

Cebu Queen City United took the lead just before halftime, thanks to Ariel Cahilig and Dan Villarico, who scored in the 47th minute, to take control of the match, 3-1. They never looked back since, as Luis Arriola scored two goals in the second half to clobber Laos.

The win strengthened Cebu Queen City United’s grip on third place in Division Two with 39 points on a 12-3-3 win-loss-draw card, but still far behind leaders Pachanga FC (52 points) and Diliman Victory Liner FC (47).

The top team at the end of the double-round robin tournament will be promoted to the UFL Division Two.

Meanwhile, ninth-ranked Dolphins United FC shocked No.4 Agila FC, 1-0, to finally clinch a victory after settling for five losses and three draws in its last eight matches.

Jerome Cuyos scored a goal in the 34th minute to lift Dolphins United, which before the match tasted their last win way back on March 10 via a 4-1 beating of the Sunken Garden United FC.

In other matches, Union Internacional Manila settled for a 2-2 draw against Lions Meltique Beef FC, while Forza FC sneaked past Sunken Garden United FC for a 2-1 win.
