In an effort to reach the football-mad provinces, the United Football League is planning to have provincial matches for the upcoming League competition.
UFL assistant technical director Ritchie Gannaban said that the league is eyeing at least two matches outside Metro Manila, which could be played at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City or the Cebu City Sports Complex in Cebu City.
“We’re just studying the costs. It’s about time that we bring the matches to the provinces,” he said.
The provincial matches could be scheduled in the second round of the League competition in the middle of the year, Gannaban added.
Gannaban said that the move will be UFL’s first step to reaching more fans in the provinces who want to see live football action.
If it goes to plan, this will be the first time the UFL will hold bearing matches outside Metro Manila.
The League competition will start on February 5 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
