Under-22 Azkals lose to Thailand, 9-1
The Philippine national Under-22 team suffered a 9-1 drubbing to Thailand in a friendly match in Bangkok Wednesday.
Former UAAP Rookie of the Year Jinggoy Valmayor scored the lone point for the U-22 Azkals, who gave up five goals while scoring none in the first half.
After Thailand, the squad led by coach John Carmona will face the Cambodia U-22 on June 13 as part of its preparations for the Asian Football Confederation U-22 Asian Cup qualifiers in Yangon, Myanmar from June 23 to July 3.
Drawn in Group G, the Philippines will face South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar and Chinese Taipei in the group stages. The two best finishers in each group, as well as the best third-placer in the tournament, will qualify for the final round.
A total of 41 countries will vie for 15 slots in the inaugural U-22 Asian Cup in 2013.
