UP JPIA holds ‘Tiktakbo’ run in support of scholarship program

Angelica Carballo
The UP Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (UP JPIA) once again showed how they give back for being “Iskolar ng Bayan” through the successful UP JPIA Tiktakbo Fit n’ Five 2012, participated by around 800 runners.
The gains from the fun run will benefit UP JPIA’s Long Term Education Assistance Program (LEAP) where scholars of the program receive support for tuition fees for their whole four years of studies and partial book allowance.
“LEAP’s objective is to support the scholars until they graduate. We see value in what we do, they see more value in supporting until graduation. It’s UP JPIA’s way of giving back since we ourselves are scholars,” said current UP JPIA president Andre Estudillo.
UP JPIA is a hall-of-famer in the UP Community, known for its events and being the only organization that has earned the UP Chancellor award for Best Student Organization. They were also recognized by the national youth commission as on the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) by the National Youth Commission and named as the best local chapter on the national federation of the JPIA nationwide multiple times. They have also earned the Quezon City Youth achievers award.
UP JPIA is widening their reach of service as they are in the process of a partnership with PUP to support their accountancy students as well. Since the tuition fee at PUP is less, a scholar there will get not just full sponsorship for tuition fees but books and monthly allowance as well.
Vice president for liason and officer-in-charge of Tiktakbo Juancho Fabic shares how the run exemplifies their mission and vision as an organization:
“Titktakbo is aligned with our mission vision. We want to uphold excellence and we want to show that in ways other than being good accountancy students. But this one, this is not really related to accountancy but we want to show everybody in the UP community that we could hold events that could really be successful and excellently executed and at the same time be able to be benefactors of our stakeholders in the future.”
