UP spikers make appeal for financial aid
The University of the Philippines men’s volleyball team (UPMVT) is calling for donations to boost its campaign for the upcoming UAAP season.
In a letter that circulated on Facebook Thursday, team captain Dominico Lucindo said the team needed financial help to support their various expenses, including athletic gear and equipment such as uniforms, balls and shoes, as well as registration fees, fares and regular meals during games.
“The UPMVT is appealing to generous individuals, companies, and institutions to assist the team in fulfilling its task to representing the University of the Philippines with the best of its abilities as varsity athletes,” the letter said.
For more details on how to help the team, contact Lucindo at 09228144975/09353000508 or email him at lucindo.dominico@gmail.com.
Last season, the UP men spikers failed to qualify the final four, settling for a sixth place finish after winning six of their 14 matches.
This is not the first time that a UP varsity squad went to Facebook to seek help. Last year, the UP men’s football team also circulated a letter on the social networking site asking for donations. They went on to win the UAAP football title that season.
Being the only state university playing in the UAAP, UP often lacks the resources to fully finance the operations of their varsity teams.
