Why did James Martinez get the most shrieks at the PBA draft yesterday?
We were all a little suprised yesterday when, deep into the second round of the 2011 PBA draft, shrieking commenced after the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings announced their pick at No. 18: sweet-shooting UE guard James Martinez. There seemed to be more noise for him than any other player drafted, including the boys from the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team.

It could have been because Ginebra is a crowd darling, but then, fans didn’t react that way when the Gin Kings’ first round pick Reil Cervantes was drafted.

Maybe it’s because Ginebra fans were so happy that their team drafted another guard? Could that have been it?
