From a humble ice cream parlor in Cubao in the 1970’s, home-grown brand, Jollibee, has come a long way as it officially opens its 1, 000th store in the country at Triangle Drive in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, on Tuesday, fourth of July.

A noteworthy success for the well-loved fast-food chain, the landmark event is marked not only by celebrations but also by activities that give back to the community.

Jollibee Philippines’ President JJ Alano said in a speech during the store blessing on Monday, July 3, “Reaching 1,000 stores is a special milestone especially in an industry as competitive as ours. Jollibee’s growth and success over the years is largely due to the fruitful partnerships we’ve made and nurtured with our franchisees, and the support of the local government units where we operate, as well as our various business partners. These, together with the patronage of our loyal customers, are among the reasons why Jollibee is where it is today–the number one and most loved fast-food chain in the country.”

As part of the celebration, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC), through the Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF) announced that they will be investing Php10 million to a program that will educate youth farmers.

JGF’s Executive Director, Gisela Tiongson said, “As we celebrate this momentous occasion, Jollibee Foods Corporation also recognizes the importance of sustaining the agricultural sector in the country, and for the agricultural sector to be sustainable, we need the youth to be engaged in farming.”

“Building on the success of the farmer entrepreneurship program, JFC through the Jollibee Group Foundation will work with academic institutions, NGOs, local and national agencies, and social enterprises to train and educate 1,000 youth farmers in agro-enterprise. JFC and JGF believe that in working together, we can sustain the growth of the agriculture sector, and uplift the lives of Filipino farmers and their families,”Tiongson added.

According to the executive director, part of the project’s initiative is to teach the young students about all the essential elements in farming as a business including marketing, financing, and logistics among others.

Unique store design

The new Jollibee BGC Triangle Drive store deviates from the usual bright-colored, spare but efficiant store design of the fast-food chain. The 1,000th store features a modern tropical design concept and hip interior elements.

Murals depicting Filipino cultural icons such as the Philippine Eagle, carabao, and mythical sarimanok also adorn the store’s drive-thru area.

According to Alano, the two-storey restaurant has a spacious lot area of 995 square meters and can accommodate around 350 persons.

“It’s modern tropical with a few features that have been added to it that will attract everybody especially millennials, and it matches BGC’s vibe,” Alano shared.

More store openings
Having reached the 1, 000th store milestone, the brand plans to expand further. This year alone, JFC is slated to open more stores.

“For JFC Global—all brands, all countries–we’re talking about more than 300 stores; [and] more than 200 stores here in the Philippines for all brands including Jollibee,” Alano shared to reporters.

“The opening of Jollibee’s 1, 000th store comes with our renewed commitment to continue delivering the same superior taste in food and service, and adherence to the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness,” Alano also said.
