‘It’s more fun in the Philippines’ photo among Mashable’s 10 most worthy on Twitter

This Philippine tourism meme photo was among Mashable’s best images this week.

MANILA—A photograph of Igorot tribesmen riding wooden bikes with the tag: “Mountain Bikes? It’s more fun in the Philippines” was among the 10 most worthy pictures on Twitter this week according to popular tech and Internet blog, Mashable.
Mashable writer Todd Wasserman said they chose 10 photos that sprung from trending hashtags on the microblogging site. It was the first time they decided to select the most popular pictures from top Twitter trends all over the globe, and the Philippine tourism meme photo was among the best.
According to the post: “The Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) recently launched a campaign featuring images of various activities along with the tagline ‘It’s more fun in the Philippines.’ The images (and their parodies), were a popular photo subject on Twitter last week. This one, on the subject of mountain biking, stood out (according to the number of retweets).”
Just a few minutes after it was launched, the DOT’s slogan was warmly received by Filipinos and the hashtag #itsmorefuninthephilippines immediately became one of the top trends on Twitter. It also opened the doors for the PInoys’ creativity to step in and hundreds of photos began circulating online parodying the slogan.
Mashable is one of the most popular and powerful blogs in the world and attracts 20 million unique visitors every month. In May 2011, it hit 50 million unique viewers.
