The year 2017 starts on a delicious note especially at the posh S Maison mall at Conrad Hotel at the MOA Complex. Celebrity baker, TV host, and cookbook author Dean Brettschneider’s popular artisan bakery and food store in Singapore opens its first overseas branch here.

The Kiwi baker has chosen the Philippines as the new location (and the first outside of Singapore) for Baker & Cook and right beside it, Plank Sourdough Pizza. The two stores will open in  January at  S Maison Conrad Hotel, Mall of Asia.

A savvy entrepreneur, Brettschneider purposely seeks out emerging Asian countries to grow his brand and develop the market which was what he had in mind when he started in Singapore four years ago.

The 47-year-old baker is excited to introduce Manila to what he calls “New World Baking,” a personal baking style which he says provides global influences while adapting local tastes in its product range.

Brettschneider was born in Rangiora, Canterbury, New Zealand.  Aside from his passion for the food business, he is also a prolific author who wrote his first volume in 1999 and is on his way to publishing his 13th book. His bestselling books got him into TV. In fact, in his hometown, Dean is a celebrity best remembered for his stint in the reality TV show “New Zealand’s Hottest Home Baker” where he sat as a judge for five years. He has done over seven TV shows since 2013—even acting in a TV drama series where he plays himself.

The celebrity baker talks about having the right partners as part of his recipe for sucess. “I very carefully choose my partners. That’s why with the Bistro Group, I know they will be my partner for success here. I could have given it to anybody, anyone with money, but it doesn’t mean you know how to operate one.”

Trendy food concepts
Baker & Cook features sleek, contemporary interiors with nice tones, clean lines and grid black stone counters. A focal point of the store are the freshly baked products including German Volkorn bread, Bombolini’s (Italian Style Doughnut),  salmon quiche, savoury & sweet pies, salads and his favorite Danish rye bread filled with seeds and grains.

Over at Plank Sourdough Pizza, which is just beside Baker & Cook are his famous sourdough pizzas.
