Members of the yoga community will once again unite on Sunday, October 1, for Global Mala Project 2017 at Blue Leaf McKinley, Bpnifacio Global City.

The global effort was started in 2007 by Shiva Rea and is now in partnership with Yoga Month and Yoga for Peace. The worldwide effort was meant to bring the yoga community together to form a “mala around the earth” through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108 (consisting of 108 Surya Namaskar, Mantra, Kriya, and Meditation).  A mala is a set of beads used for chanting or meditation.

On October 1, Global Mala will be happening simultaneously in key cities like Los Angeles, New York, London, San Francisco, and Tokyo, to name a few.

On its Facebook page, Global Mala Project Manila shares that the event’s mission is “To raise awareness and funds for some of the most important issues of our planet: global warming and marine conservation.”

Proceeds of the Manila effort will benefit Trees For the Future and Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park.

Besides yoga classes, the gathering will also have non-traditional classes of drumming and capoeira as well as talks on health, wellness, sustainability, and mindful living.

In celebration of its 10th year, the Global Mala Project is also introducing The Mindful Market, a green market space that promotes and supports organic, natural, and sustainable products, businesses, and services. This year, all proceeds will be donated to World Wildlife Fund.

Sharing the same values with Global Mala Project is Certified Calm, a one-stop store for yoga practitioners. The brand advocates wellness, sustainability, conscious consumption, and living a zero-waste lifestyle. Thus, ensuring that it only partners with companies who honor and care for the earth, resulting in a force of positive change.
